This highly compromised listing was priced according to market, but after 4 months it had only received low-ball offers. They wanted to sell as is, but the offers made them realize that buyers just could not see beyond the clutter. With no desire to invest in repairs or updating, their Realtor referred them to me.
With the distressed walls covered in old wallpaper and paneling, painting did not present a thrifty option. Leaving the home completely empty would have accentuated flaws and only attracted more low-ball offers. With that in mind, we decided to sift, toss and rearrange. Upon completion, the first showing yielded a full price offer.

Preparing a home to sell that has been occupied for many years can be a daunting task. Often the home is filled with sentimental items and clutter that can significantly reduce the homes appeal to younger buyers and consequently, the sale price. The sifting process can be time consuming and presenting the home in its best light can be a challenge.
Studies show that when possible, the homeowner should be very involved in this process. Though no one can take the place of a family member, kindness and patience can go a long way to establish the trust needed to get this emotionally taxing job done.
